The Parliamentary Hearing Committee has begun discussing complaints against Nepal’s 13 ambassador nominees. Many Source reports that complaints have been filed against all 13. The committee had invited complaints on September 24. Although the government screened about 4,500 applicants, questions over two nominees have put the selection process under scrutiny. A woman has filed a complaint alleging sexual harassment and threats against Giri Bahadur Sunar, the nominee for Saudi Arabia. The committee heard complainants in a closed-door meeting on Monday. Sunar rejects the allegations and has challenged his accusers to produce evidence. A separate complaint says Jigyan Kumar Thapa, nominated for Japan, holds permanent residency and property there, creating a potential conflict of interest. The complainant argues this violates the Foreign Ministry’s terms of reference, which bar nominees with residency permits abroad. Thapa says he surrendered his Japanese permanent residency in March and has no financial interests in Japan. Neither nominee has yet appeared before the committee.
